OIST Kids Lecture ‘The Evolution of the Butterfly’s Eyespot’
On December 20, 2025 (Saturday), a children’s science lecture titled “The Evolution of the Butterfly’s Eyespot” was held at the OIST Science Studio (Yun Lab Mirai-kan).
The event welcomed Professor Antonia from the National University of Singapore as the guest speaker. She delivered an engaging and accessible explanation of the function and evolution of the eyespot patterns found on butterfly wings, incorporating insights from her latest research.
Many elementary school students attended the lecture, listening attentively to Professor Antonia’s talk from beginning to end. During the question-and-answer session that followed, the children actively asked questions, and Professor Antonia responded to each one with care, sharing the wonders of the natural world and the excitement of scientific discovery.
The one-hour program proceeded in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the children remained focused throughout the session. OIST will continue its efforts to provide opportunities for children in the local community to engage with science.
