An example of different wave phases

A graph shows two waves identical in magnitude and frequency, one in red and one in blue. The top and bottom points of the red wave occur at different moments in time to the blue wave, indicating they are out of phase with each other.

While identical in magnitude and frequency, the blue and red waves hit their peaks and troughs at different moments in time, and therefore have different phases.
