Title: The Evolution of Butterfly Eyespot Patterns | ちょうちょの「目玉もよう」のひみつ

Abstract: Nature is filled with organisms with intricate and beautiful features - but how do they evolve for the first time? I will provide an overview of our studies on eyespots on the wings of butterflies: how they originated and evolved for the first time, and how they are used in interactions with predators and in mate attraction.

アブストラクト：自然界は、複雑で美しい特徴を持つ生き物で満ち溢れていますが、それらはどのようにして初めて進化したのでしょうか？本講演では、蝶の翅（はね）の目玉模様に関する私たちの研究について概説します。これらの模様がどのようにして初めて生まれ、進化してきたのか、また、捕食者との相互作用や求愛においてどのように利用されているのかを解説します。

Speaker Profile: Professor Antónia Monteiro received her BSc from the University of Lisbon (1992) and her PhD from the University of Edinburgh (1997). She did postdoctoral work both at Harvard and Leiden Universities. She held faculty positions at the University at Buffalo, Yale University, and Yale-NUS College in Singapore. Currently she holds an endowed professorship in the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Her research interests focus on the evolution of novel complex traits in organisms, with a special focus on the evolution and development of butterfly wing color patterns.

アントニア・モンテイロ教授 はリスボン大学で理学士号（1992年）を、エジンバラ大学で博士号（1997年）を取得。ハーバード大学およびライデン大学で博士研究員として研究に従事しました。バッファロー大学、エール大学、シンガポールのイェール-NUSカレッジで教員の職を経て、現在はシンガポール国立大学（NUS）の生物科学科で終身教授職を務めています。研究対象は、生物における新しい複雑な形質の進化に焦点を当てており、特に蝶の翅の色彩パターンの進化と発生に強い関心を持っています。
