Lunchtime Seminar: AI in Drug Discovery
Wednesday January 21st, 2026 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM
Lab4 E01

Description

Speaker: Jake Taylor-King, Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer, Relation Therapeutics, London, UK

Biography: Dr. Jake Taylor-King is a mathematician and computational biologist who co-founded Relation Therapeutics to transform drug discovery using human-centric data. An expert in single-cell bioinformatics and machine learning, he holds advanced degrees from the University of Oxford and Cambridge and previously led bioinformatics at Empyrean Therapeutics. Relation Therapeutics utilizes a proprietary "Lab-in-the-Loop" platform, integrating single-cell multi-omics directly from patient tissue with machine learning to identify the causal drivers of disease. The company has secured several landmark partnerships, including a $1.7 billion deal with Novartis for atopic diseases and a $300 million multi-target collaboration with GSK focused on fibrosis and osteoarthritis.

Talk Title: AI in Drug Discovery
A whirlwind tour of how machine learning and genomics are changing how we are performing drug discovery at Relation Therapeutics. I will first outline our philosophy of combining genetics, advanced cell models and agentic systems, and then focus on topics within spatial transcriptomics (covering new computational pipelines and experimental techniques we have developed) and active learning (how to choose experimental configurations to be maximally informative).
