Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Promotion Corporation (OIST) has applied for an approval of the establishment of the OIST School Corporation and the University to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

On Sunday, February 27, OIST held a tour for the residents of Tancha, the district of Onna Village in which the OIST campus is situated.

Mr. Gert J. Grobler, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of South Africa to Japan, visited OIST on February 24, accompanied by Mr. Thomas Cronje, First Secretary, Ms. Mariko Yokoyama and Ms. Keiko Wakamatsu. Dr. Jonathan Dorfan, OIST President-elect, himself from South Africa, presented an overview of the developments, goals and current status at OIST.

On February 11, 2011, twelve local high school students in Okinawa visited the OIST campus to meet with Dr. Torsten Wiesel, Co-chair of the OIST Board of Governors (BOG), President Emeritus of Rockefeller University, and the 1981 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine.
