US Market Discovery Program
Description
Explore, validate, and network in Washington DC
The US Market Discovery Program is an immersive international experience designed to help OIST researchers and early-stage teams test their ideas in one of the world’s most competitive and opportunity-rich markets: the United States.
Hosted in Washington, DC in collaboration with George Washington University’s Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, this program supports innovators in translating cutting-edge research into real-world applications by engaging directly with customers, partners, and industry experts.
Why Join?
Entering a new market—especially one as complex as the U.S.—requires more than a strong idea. This program equips participants with the tools, insights, and connections needed to make informed, strategic decisions.
Through a hands-on, Lean Startup–based approach, participants will:
Understand key differences between the Japanese (or home) market and the U.S. market
Test and refine business hypotheses through real customer discovery
Build meaningful connections with potential collaborators, partners, and stakeholders
Explore pathways to market entry, including joint research, distribution, and commercialization strategies
Strengthen their business model with guidance from experienced U.S.-based mentors
Participants don’t just learn—they actively validate, refine, or even rethink their strategy based on real-world feedback.
