Lentipes kijimuna goby

Photograph of colorful goby fish, starkly striped in blue and orange.

Male Lentipes kijimuna, another goby described by Dr. Maeda as a new species in 2021, named after the kijimuna, which are fiery-haired Okinawan forest fairies inhabiting the islands’ banyan trees. Like this mythological creature, the elusive goby has a distinctive red color and hides out in forest streams.
