Facility Maintenance Coordinator

The position

OIST was founded by the Japanese government to contribute to science and technology worldwide, attract leading researchers from Japan and abroad to conduct high-quality research, advance the development of a world-class research hub, and nucleate a knowledge cluster that will catalyze technology transfer and industrial innovation in Okinawa. In order to achieve this goal, we need to provide our researchers with a world-class research environment. The most important appointment of the Facilities Management Section is to properly maintain and manage the facilities within a limited budget.

The Facilities Management Section/Energy Management Coordinator is responsible for managing the energy used throughout the campus. One of the main tasks is to prepare periodic reports required by the Energy Conservation Law. The coordinator is expected to contribute to the energy conservation of the entire campus by preparing plans for the proper use of electricity, water, LNG, A-oil, and LPG. In addition, some of OIST's research buildings have already been constructed for more than 10 years and need major repairs and renovations. One of important tasks is to carry out these repairs and renovations according to plans.

Position summary:

Some of OIST's research buildings have already been constructed for more than 10 years and are in need of major repairs and renovations. One of the key responsibilities of the Facilities Management Section/Facilities Maintenance Coordinator is to implement those repairs and renovations according to plan. The section also manages the energy used throughout the campus. The coordinator is expected to prepare plans for the proper use of electricity, water, natural gas, Fuel Oil A, and LP gas, and to contribute to energy conservation throughout the campus.

  • In particular, the practical skills acquired in this field will be of great use when looking beyond the scope of facilities and considering them from the perspective of the users who use them.
  • Based on the data obtained, the program is expected to be applied in a wider range of fields, such as making recommendations for future office design and establishing and deploying operational methods that maximize energy efficiency.

Responsibilities
  1. Energy management
    • Preparation of periodic reports based on the Energy Conservation Law
    • Preparation of monthly reports showing campus energy usage
    • Promotion of energy conservation activities
  2. Utility cost management
    • Preparation of forecasts for electricity, water, A-oil, LNG, and LPG usage
    • Review of contracted electricity
  3. Facility and equipment maintenance management support
    • Maintenance and management of energy service contract
    • Maintenance and management of BEMS’s contract    
  4. Support for major repairs and facility renovation work
    • Support for ordering and supervising construction work in accordance with repair and renovation plans.
    • Responding to requests related to facility management.
    • Repairs and renovations requested by other departments
Qualifications

(Required)

  1. At least 5 years of experience in electrical, mechanical, and HVAC maintenance
  2. General knowledge and experience in energy conservation and environmental protection
  3. Communication skills to build good relationships with other groups
  4. Intermediate level of Microsoft Office
  5. Japanese driver’s license

(Preferred)

  1. Qualification of energy manager
  2. Daily Conversation level English skill
