Bill Munro

William John MUNRO received his D. Phil degree in Physics from the University of Waikato (NZ) in 1995 and has spent the majority of his career as an industrial scientist in both Hewlett Packard and NTT Basic Research Laboratories. Within NTT BRL he was the founding director of its research center for Theoretical Quantum Physics and a senior member of its technical staff. Joining OIST in 2023, Bill’s research focus in Quantum Science ranges from foundational issues of quantum theory through to applications of quantum technology and designs for their practical realization. His Quantum Engineering and Design (Q.E.D) research unit explores the design and system engineering of quantum technologies with the aim to provide a path from the theoretical concepts to its real-world implementation and exportation. Further Bill is also a fellow of the APS, OSA and IOP.
