Vadim Samardak
Both my uncle and older brother became condensed matter physicists, so already at school, I’ve been involved in the scientific field. Therefore, it helped me to understand what I really want to explore the world at the fundamental level.
I finished both my Bachelor's and Master's programs in nanotechnologies and condensed matter physics at Far Eastern Federal University, Vladivostok, Russia. During the last year of education, we got a new professor from Kyoto University who created a Spin-orbitronics laboratory, which I joined to work in a new group. Later, the professor introduced me to the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology. I came here as an intern student for almost a year and joined the PhD program in 2023. Currently, I am working on the manipulation and state readout of electrons confined in microstructures for quantum-CCD architecture.
Outside OIST, I enjoy marine activities, volleyball, Japanese language study, and car racing culture.
