On April 26, OIST professors Gordon Arbuthnott, Gail Tripp, and Jeff Wickens presented their recent neurobiology work to pharmaceutical researchers at the Shionogi pharmaceutical company. OIST Vice President for Finance & Administration Patrick Vincent also attended the seminar, as did Shingo Ohyama and Naeko Miyazato of the Technology Licensing Section and Miwako Nishimura of the Business Development Section. The seminar furthered a collaboration between Shionogi and OIST that began in October 2011.

The seminar took place at the Shionogi Pharmaceutical Research Center (SPRC)  in Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture which hosts about 800 researchers. More than 100 Shionogi staff attended the presentations, many of them young researchers, and they asked many questions of the OIST professors, according to Ms. Miyazato. “The Shionogi researchers told us these were very stimulating and informative presentations,” she says.

The seminar was followed by a poster presentation and more informal exchanges between the OIST members present and Shionogi's researchers and managers.

The next collaboration seminar between Shionogi and OIST will take place in Okinawa in October of this year.
