Dr. Kiyoshi Kurokawa receives the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star

Dr. Kiyoshi Kurokawa, a member of the OIST Board of Governors and an academic fellow of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, has been awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, by the Government of Japan.

Dr. Kurokawa was formerly the president of the Science Council of Japan, a member of the Council for Science and Technology Policy of the Cabinet Office, and a special advisor to the Cabinet in charge of science, technology, and innovation. The Japanese government has recognized Dr. Kurokawa’s great contribution to the nation's academic promotion as the reason for his award. The award ceremony took place at the Imperial Palace on June 24, and Dr. Kurokawa was handed the award by Prime Minister Naoto Kan.

Dr. Kurokawa has served as the OIST Board member since September 2005 and an Establishing Member of Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology School Corporation since September 2009. He has advised on the preparation for the opening of the OIST Graduate University and the operations of OIST Promotion Corporation.
