Experimenting with the cost-benefit decision-making process in rats
In a simple behavioral experiment, rats choose between better quality food that is delivered in conjunction with an uncomfortably bright light, or lower quality food with a less bright light. Signals from the ventromedial thalamus may affect which choice the rats make.
