Established in Seragaki, Onna in 2016, OMSS serves as a hub for advancing marine science research at OIST, just 15 minutes by car from the main OIST campus.

OIST Sea neXus is the new marine science facility at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), designed to serve as a hub for research, education, and collaboration. As part of OIST’s Core Facilities, OIST Sea neXus provides shared experimental space and resources to support cutting-edge marine science and interdisciplinary collaboration.
MTS is currently commissioning a Plant Growth Facility on OIST’s main campus to support controlled plant research. The facility will provide seven dedicated research rooms for plant experiments requiring controlled environmental conditions, careful sample handling, and contamination management.

Our field work experts provides support to survey in Okinawa's unique marine environments. We also offer the guidance on safety research diving in accordance with OIST diving regulation.
沖縄における環境音声の記録は2017年からOKEONサイトで継続されており、2025年現在、全サイトを合計すると13,500時間程のデータが蓄積されています。ESIでは、鳥の鳴き声を検出するためのモデルや、音声同定のワークフロー、予備的な音声統計（生き物の音や人工の音の指標など）を整備しています。Kaleidoscope生物音声解析ツール、音声同定ワークフローの作成、音声統計処理、グラフ作成の経験もあり、単発レコーディングのための高品質のハンディーレコーダーや、水中へも展開可能な長期音声モニタリングのための設置ボックスも所有しています。
OISTの昆虫コレクションは、沖縄県内から収集された昆虫やその他無脊椎動物の多様な宝庫です。このコレクションは主に、OKEON24カ所に設置されたマレーゼトラップで過去10年間（2015年から現在）に収集された試料から構成されます。乾燥標本は、種レベルまで同定されたアリ類と甲虫類で、マウントされた状態で約240個の標本箱に入り（約60,000標本）、標本室で保管されています。液浸標本は、そのほとんどが未分類で、多種の昆虫類が合わさったままの状態で、DNAを保存するための高濃度エタノールと冷凍庫で保管されています。このコレクションは、系統分類学、進化学、分類学、生態学、ゲノム研究など、幅広い種類のプロジェクトに活用できます。

ESIでは、24箇所のOKEONフィールドサイト、標本コレクション、音声記録、ウェザーステーション、カメラトラップ、その他様々なデータセットを管理しています。データの検索、プロジェクトの開始、分析のサポート、GISデータセット（衛星画像解析、土壌や水質、土地利用と土地被覆、標高と水深、流域解析など）の収集や実績もあります。また、沖縄だけでなく、世界中の地図作成、マッピング、空間分析のサポートも行っています。

The members of MTS have spent years maintaining relationships with the local community in Okinawa as well as stakeholders and government agencies to fulfill our roles in both research and education. We have developed multiple educational programs for young students as well as museum displays, community collaboration, and outreach programs. We can help connect you with the relevant parties to discuss field research, or other outreach you may wish to do. We can also aid in applying for research permissions, field sampling, and contracts.
The MTS team consists of experienced researchers in both fieldwork and laboratory settings. With a deep understanding of marine ecosystems and advanced research techniques, the team provides essential support to a wide range of projects. Whether conducting field research or managing cutting-edge experiments in the lab, the MTS team works closely with researchers to ensure the success of their studies.

At MTS we aid in coordination between OIST research and government agencies including plant & insect collection, bird breeding, and ecosystems research. We can help with obtaining permissions and help navigating procedures for field work, specimen collection, and other communications and reports as required by stakeholders in Japan. We also assist with externally funded and joint projects between multiple research institutions, including coordination and managing procedures involved, preparing reports, and giving presentations as required for the Okinawa Prefectural Government and Japan’s Ministry of Environment.
Our team at MTS has had a meaningful impact on the local community through well received outreach and education programs. We have created education materials and classes for use in local schools, presentations for the community, museum displays, and joint development of environmental education programs with resort hotels. We have also developed workshops for adults and children for identification of problem ant species. We have good relationships with educators in Okinawa and can help you disseminate your research in the local community.

高品質のGPSレシーバー3台とハンディーGPS、沖縄の多湿環境でも使用できるフィールドコンピューター、デジタルノギス、その他フィールドでのデータ収集や記録に便利な機器を備えています。
音環境の研究に活用するマイクや音記録ユニットを備えています（長距離パラボラマイク、ゲイン調整、レコーダーミキサー、高音質ハンディーレコーダー、水中レコーダー、長期大型/マイクロ音響レコーディングユニットなど）。
フィールド撮影、標本撮影、一般的な写真撮影をサポートする機器を備えています。Zスタッキング顕微鏡イメージング、写真撮影用長距離レンズ、360°ビデオパノラマカメラ、カメラ関連道具（バッグ、三脚、マウント）があります。
フィールドでの測定や、実験室での小規模スケールの測定に便利な小型分光計を備えています。
eDNAサンプラー、昆虫捕獲器、レーザー距離計、ポータブルスピーカー、電池、急速充電器、その他フィールドツール（スコップ、ノコギリ、手袋、ジャケットなど）など、フィールドでのデータ収集に役立つ様々なツールを備えています。
