Research Unit Technician/ Evolutionary Neurobiology Unit (1)

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST; see is a dynamic new graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. Position summary

We are seeking a research unit technician with analytical chemistry experience to assist the research project at Evolutionary Neurobiology unit.

  1. Analysis of small compounds using analysis equipment
  2. Order consumables
  3. Assistance in managing laboratory chemical storage and small laboratory equipment
  4. Troubleshoot procedures and assist in implementing modifications



1. Applicants should have bachelor’s or master’s degree in the field of chemistry, biology or related field
2. Excellent communication and organization skills
3. A willingness to learn new techniques and procedures


4. Communication skills in English and Japanese
5. Experience in Biochemical experiments
6. Experience in liquid chromatography
7. Experience in mass spectrometry
8. Ability to balance multiple requests and assignments
9. Capability of working within a project team to achieve results

Starting Date 

On or after April 1, 2019

Term & Working Hours 

Full-time, Contract initially with 3-month probationary period (inclusive). fixed term appointment for 1 year with possibility of renewal (maximum 3 years)

Working hours

9:00-17:30 (Discretionary)
