Postdoctoral Scholar position in Micro/Bio/ Nanofluidics Unit

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST; see is a dynamic new graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The Micro/Bio/Nanofluidics Unit ( at OIST is looking for postdocs with a strong background in microfluidics and rheology. Recently, using 3D-printed microfluidic devices, our group has reported elastic instabilities and elastic turbulence resulting from fluid-structure interactions between slender flexible filaments and a viscoelastic fluid, by using a number of flow visualization and diagnostic techniques (see relevant references below). To extend this work, one position is on canopy turbulence in small length scales (related to fluid-structure interaction and flow-induced structural formation in microfluidics) and the other position is open to the general area of Microfluidics and Rheology.



  1. Candidates should have a PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering physics, or a related discipline.
  2. Prior experience in rheology, micro/nanofluidics, micro/nanofabrications, flow visualization, or numerical simulations/CFD is preferred.
  3. Candidates will work in a multidisciplinary group of engineers, physicists, chemists, and biologists. Peer-reviewed publications in high quality journals are a must.

Term & Working Hours 

Term: Full-time, the position is initially for one year and can be extended to 2 more years based on performance and mutual agreement.

Working hours: 9:00-17:30 (Discretionary)
