Clinical Veterinarian

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST; see www.oist.jp) is a dynamic new graduate university of science and technology in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. The university is located on 85 hectares of protected forestland overlooking beautiful shoreline and coral reefs. Position summary:

This position requires a variety of expertise and knowledge in the field of neuroscience of rodent, Zebra finch, Xenopus and Zebra fish. In addition to these animals, the squid and/or octopus, now became the object of animal welfare (Protocol review; humane treatment) in Europe, and the OIST Animal Care and Use Committee has reviewed and approved the protocols for using octopus.
The position of Veterinarian in Animal Resource Section(ARS) is essential for ARS’s business, because the position is charged with the management of animal health, animal facilities, and animal research support.

Responsibilities 

  1. Examine animals to diagnose their health problems
  2. Provide education and training program for researchers and students such as orientation, basic procedures and/or aseptic surgical techniques
  3. Monitor and supervise usual care and use operation in the vivarium

Qualifications 

  1. Doctor for Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
  2. Commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding veterinary code of ethics.
  3. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Works collaboratively with Research members and commitment to ongoing institutional development and growth.

Term & Working Hours 

Term: Full-time, fixed term appointment for 2 years. Contract initially with 3-month probationary period (inclusive).
This contract may be renewed.

Working hours: 9:00-17:30 (Discretionary)
