Campus Safety Coordinator

The position

OIST was founded by the Japanese government to contribute to science and technology worldwide, attract leading researchers from Japan and abroad to conduct high-quality research, advance the development of a world-class research hub, and nucleate a knowledge cluster that will catalyze technology transfer and industrial innovation in Okinawa. In order to achieve this goal, we need to provide our researchers with a world-class research environment. The most important appointment of the Facilities Management Section is to properly maintain and manage the facilities within a limited budget.

Position Summary:
The construction of a safe and secure campus is essential for the formation of a comfortable research environment. As the campus expands, it is required to have a dedicated staff to ensure campus safety. The Campus Safety Coordinator frequently patrols the campus and performs activities related to preventive campus safety. This is an important position that actively involves building a safe campus for the future.

Responsibilities
  1. Duties related to the safe operation of the campus
    • Traffic safety education and activities
    • Campus traffic violation vehicle enforcement
    • Planning and implementation of crime prevention education, activities, and measures
  2. Duties related to campus health and safety
    • Investigation of causes of accidents, planning and implementation of measures to prevent recurrence
    • Preparation of accident reports
    • Participation in safety and health committee activities
  3. Duties related to the self-defense firefighting organization
    • Participation in activities of the self-defense fire brigade
    • Support for fire and disaster prevention managers
  4. Duties related to cooperation with local police and fire departments
    • Exchange information on crime prevention and fire prevention as appropriate and build a good relationship
  5. Duties related to joint disaster prevention training with local municipalities
    • Support planning and implementation of joint drills
    • Exchange information with local governments
Qualifications

(Required)

  1. More than 3 years of work experience in related to fire prevention, disaster prevention, or crime prevention.
  2. Intermediate level of Microsoft Office
  3. Communication skills to maintain good relationships with other groups
  4. Junior college graduate or equivalent educational background
  5. Japanese Driver License

(Preferred)

  1. Class-1 Health Officer’s License
  2. Qualified as a fire and disaster prevention manager
  3. Daily conversation level of English
  4. Hazardous Materials Engineer’s License
