The OIST Board of Governors decided at its October 2015 meeting to launch an open, international search for President/Chief Executive Officer of OIST, the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (www.oist.jp).
The mission of OIST is to carry out world-class graduate education and research in the natural sciences, and to stimulate the sustainable economic development of Okinawa. The President of OIST Graduate University serves as the CEO of the OIST School Corporation and is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the University, in close cooperation with the Board of Governors. The university receives its main support as subsidies from the government, and close cooperation between the President, the BOG, and the government is essential for successful operation of the university. The President will lead the next stage of expansion of the University, aimed at doubling the size by the year 2023. The President is expected to support technology transfer of OIST intellectual property and to encourage R&D-based economic development in Okinawa.
A twelve-member Presidential Search Committee has been formed from members of the OIST Board of Governors, faculty, and executive. The committee has been charged with identifying and helping to recruit the person most suitable to serve as the President/CEO of OIST.
