Images of excitons in momentum-space

Images in momentum-space of the electrons and holes constituting excitons. The red clusters represent electrons, with the top image showing exciton-bound, energized electrons, and the bottom image showing their corresponding holes (circled), surrounded by electrons that are not energized. The energy-momentum-space is mapped by measuring the angles and speeds of the electrons as they are ejected from the material by the beam of light within the extreme ultraviolet range. These images appeared in the publication in Nature.
