OIST staff clean up Seaside House beach on Earth Day

On April 22, OIST took part in Earth Day celebrations by cleaning up the Seaside House beach in Onna Village. With the sun and a cooling breeze from the ocean on their faces, OIST researchers and administrative staff, together with personnel from the construction company currently building Laboratory 2 and the auditorium on the OIST campus, collected all kinds of garbage from cans to glass and plastic bottles to fishing floats. About 70 people showed up during their lunch time to contribute to the worldwide event. Thanks to every one who participated.

For over 40 years, Earth Day—April 22—has inspired and mobilized individuals and organizations worldwide to demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. Several million people take part in activities in 175 countries each year.
